They Need Your Help!
More than 93,000 refugees from South Sudan have fled to Uganda since December 2013. Rebel fighting within South Sudan has killed more than 10,000 and displaced over a million people. The UN has warned that the unfolding humanitarian crisis could be “the worst starvation in Africa since the 1980s, when hundreds of thousands of people died in Ethiopia’s famine.”
Feed the Hungry is addressing the emergency by stepping out in faith to provide prepared daily meals to 7,527 Sudanese refugee children at 10 locations within the Kiryandongo Refugee Resettlement, one of three camps accommodating the majority of women and children fleeing the violence and bloodshed.
Acute malnutrition within the camp affects 24% of children; 66% of the camp is experiencing “severe food insecurity”. Hunger-related diseases like acute respiratory infection, dysentery, and malaria currently affect more than 70% of the children.
These daily meals are a life-saving intervention and must continue. Your support is desperately needed to maintain the supply of fortified rice & soy rations presently cooked and distributed by willing church volunteers.
